Research update: Evidence

20 Oct 2017

Our work on evidence is going beyond our original research on the subject.

ALNAP has just released a paper on the use of evidence for humanitarian resource allocation. Earlier this year we looked into evidence quality and evaluation in another paper summarising the discussions in our Humanitarian Evaluation Community of Practice.

2 June 2016 | ALNAP signs humanitarian scholars commitments at WHS

Humanitarian academics at the World Humanitarian Summit (WHS) and the International Humanitarian Studies Association (IHSA) committed to the following:

  1. making humanitarian research more collaborative and inclusive
  2. researching both the positive and negative the impacts of the WHS
  3. further developing and adopting evidence-based approaches
  4. localising humanitarian research and education within the regions and communities affected by emergencies
  5. improving the impact and increasing the use of humanitarian research by encouraging and supporting trans-disciplinary research that collaborates with non-traditional knowledge actors
  6. protecting academic freedom, upholding scientific ethics, and be accountable for the research done and how it is used
20 June 2016 | ALNAP leads WHS commitment to improving use of evidence

During the World Humanitarian Summit, ALNAP and EvidenceAid led the way for an official commitment to improving the use of evidence in humanitarian action which was signed by over 20 organisations.

Our new Bridging the Evidence Gap webinar series is one of the ways in which we're doing our part. By highlighting high quality research and approaches that are linking the production of evidence with its use we hope to raise awareness of the importance of evidence for effective humanitarian action.
